14. Why again did bi-planes lost to monoplanes? It would even be more obvious with a tri-cycle gear, but the tail needs to be in the center. You cannot have a bi-plane tail because then it would scrap on the ground on take-off and landing. But the main wing is protected from the ground by the gear just below it (notice how the a-10 has the wheels in the wing). So it can be very low. The fuselage with the cockpit is very high at this place ( 747 ), so you can place the upper wing high in the sky. Thus interference between the planes is minimal and roll is fast.
    Of course here the propwash covers so much surface area on the wings. Mono-plane with wing in the same height has the prop hub would be far better. Also: retractable gears.
