okay that’s it enough sulking enough thinking i’m ever the optimist so let’s get to work and fix this mess that we made in the last video anyone who didn’t see quite how we did this bad of a job in the paint go check out that video first and then come back here to see exactly how we fix it hopefully the plan is to cut out the same stickers again cover up the coloured bits and spray in the gray around them fingers crossed that being smaller we’re not going to have the same issue of it peeling paint off so that’s option a if option a doesn’t work and it keeps peeling paint off well i’m going to use those same vinyl bits on top of a piece of paper cut it out by hand and then use that paper to cover it up and then pin it down rather than sticking it down either way we’re going to be using the gray paint and the airbrush to try and fill in all the gaps all the white bits and all the mess so fingers crossed plan a works or if not we’re on to plan b either way this is getting fixed in this video even if i have to go to option c which is to paint the whole thing black let’s hope for a and b template time time to get printing yet again cutting out the exact same templates as used the first time those that didn’t work option a masking and re-spraying maybe it’s dried enough to or maybe not just check with the template vinyl and it’s still picking paint off that’s a really quick option a out the window so option a of using smaller stickers didn’t work on to option b cutting them out on paper pinning them down so there’s no actual stickiness involved fingers crossed it works otherwise it’s time for the black paint so we’re going to use the same templates as before however rather than using them as sticky templates they’re just going to be paper or card templates cut them out lay them on the model and instead of gluing them down we’re going to be using pins basically one in every corner or in every large gap this is of course going to make the model look like a pin cushion however it’s definitely going to be better than it is already and being foam it does kind of bounce back and cover up the holes anyway so it shouldn’t be too obvious once we have all our stickers or templates cut out it’s just a case of placing them on the model in the correct locations and very carefully pinning them down and then moment of truth does the airbrush cover up all the sins fingers crossed i’m actually using a business card here just to cover up the areas that i don’t want to over spray onto much better than trying to use anything sticky or putting even more pins into the model so far the paint’s covering up quite nicely you can’t really tell that there’s been any kind of major disaster underneath so fingers crossed when we lift off these templates we might yet have a solution look just like nothing ever went wrong do the same on the other side [Music] and the moment of truth time to pull the pins out see what’s left underneath the template [Music] success no bleeding and no lifting off the paint that’s underneath now i’m just going to cover up some of the uh overly white parts and then we’re going to do the exact same procedure in reverse and colour it in again using the same template and pin process for the canopy hatch i’m using cling film as it’s see-through and it wraps around nicely i can use it as a template and then pass that template onto a piece of card which will pin down as we did with the rest of the templates after all it’s a funny shape [Music] once we’ve got the template cut out just pin it down and airbrush it in just like with the rest of the airbrushing we’re being very careful to paint from the side of the paper so the air pressure is not trying to get underneath the paper back to cutting out templates now that we know it works we can simply follow it across the rest of the model and cover up everywhere that’s been made a mess off again using the car just to prevent any kind of overspray [Music] how about that absolutely perfect [Music] more pins more paper more templates but fortunately more successes starting to look good and oh yeah even more templates with even more pins [Music] anybody else notice that this year is turning out to be fluorescent we’ve got the lizard we’ve now got the mini lizard and we’ve got the pilot rc slick in the background it’s going to be a bright year and even more templates now i don’t want to use the whole spray can on small areas i’m not a good graffiti artist so i’m actually just spraying some yellow into an empty cup adding a little bit of solvent and then using that as if it was a tub of paint to pour into my airbrush thus allowing a much more precise control over where the paint’s going not to mention being able to actually use it at a much lower pressure than that that it comes out of the can with and we’re on to the black [Music] hopefully the last layer [Music] option b rocks we’ve been able to get it back to where it should have been quite a few number of days ago it’s taken a whole lot longer than i would have wanted and it should have done but we’re there it’s back to looking good again now it’s time just to finish it off with some final stickers final touches and we’ll be weathering it a little bit which will also hide some of the sins time to finish it up and finally finally go fly mp stickers got to have a couple of them hopefully they’re not going to lift off any more paint when i pull them off [Music] it looks like our looks changing that’s the sticker’s on time to weather it now no real technique here just adding a little bit of shading and dark areas here and there finding something that i feel looks about right you may feel that i went a bit ott or you may feel that i could have done it further personal preferences but i think in the end it looks really cool and finally we have the canopy now the lizard has a funny shaped canopy so we’re actually not going to follow the line drawn on the canopy by the mold instead we’re going to draw our own and just paint the whole thing black there we go a speed canopy and one finished model and here we have it the finished product and it looks as if nothing ever went wrong now it did take a heck of a lot longer than was planned so much so that i even had to have a shave but the end results been worth it we’ve brought it back from the dead and it looks absolutely fantastic now we did have to go with option b which was making a whole new set of templates and pinning them down everywhere so that we could then paint over the top and not have that mask lift up while painting but we got there in the end i will say thank you to today’s inadvertent sponsor my company avocadvisors who thanks to all the old business cards that we don’t use anymore which i bring home i’ve been able to use them to prevent overspray going where we didn’t want it so go abaco unfortunately some minor templates which i had planned on sticking on things like the rudders and then painting over them we’re not going to use them just in case we start putting all the paint off yet again so we’ll leave those off and say thank you to the multiplex anyway time to get this thing finished get it in the air see how she actually flies really hope it’s been worth all of this crazy amount of work to get it looking like that mini lizard let’s get to it before assembling the vector unit just make sure that you know exactly what goes where it is really simple but does have quite a few parts so we attach the ball links pin the moving parts together attach the motor to it using the standoffs and then screw it into the base which is then glued to the back of the model [Music] and just like that we have a really fun vector unit installed secure the wires so they can’t move anywhere and then the vector servos in their final location running the wires to the receiver and it’s on to the push rods the push rods do come to cut to length so make sure to mark them at the right distances take into account the quick links and then solder everything in place and that’s it the plane’s now finished it’s painted and it’s got all the equipment installed inside now i am going to be installing a gyro in this one after all it’s a 3d vector jet now for this i actually have two options on this occasion the good people at multiplex were kind enough to actually send me one of their wing stabby units which i do want to and will be testing out however i’m going to start off by installing the powerbox systems igyrosat simply because it’s the same unit that i have in my lizard 3d jet and it’s going in a few others as well and i want to use this plane as a bit of a test bed to learn all the ins and outs of this gyro so i can then apply that to the jets so we’ll start there then we’ll install the wing stabby and we’ll be able to give the two a bit of a comparison time to get them installed then we can get on to the fun bit the flying [Music] and that is the finished fun jet 2 or as it’s now going to be called in my radio the mini lizard it took a heck of a lot longer to get finished than i wanted due to all the problems but i can definitely say i’m a lot lot happier at the end of this video than i was at the end of the last one when all the painting went wrong final thoughts though it looks great would i do it again probably not big recommendation the stickers that come with the plane are really cool install them and go fly anyway after the flying field to test it get ready for the next video where i’ll be showing you what the setup is it’s basically the same as the sab lizard and then we’ll have the fun part the actual flying until then if you want to check out the igivo sap video click here or you can see the setup of the sab lizard by clicking here as well 1. ¡Hola Martín! Really nice work! Congratulations!!! One help… what is the kind of paint did you use? Airbrush… to fix it on foam… dis you use something special? Thanks….

  2. Martin in case you don't already have a setup for this.. 🙂 t motor f80 pro 2500kv on 6s 1300mah with a 5052 props. Only 1kw but over 270kmh go's measured 🙂
OH well saw the end of the video never mind 😀

  3. Or plan 'E', use regular roll printer paper with a light spritz of repositionable spray adhesive (like post-it note adhesive) – then cut that in the vinyl cutter or laser, works a treat for these PITA jobs where the paint keeps lifting :-))

  4. I saw a good tip over at the Flite Test guys that helped me alot. They took the piece of masking and "rubbed" it over your sweather or pants. By doing that the maskingtape etc looses some of it's adhesive? you will have to test it to know how much or little it's enough? keep up the great work Martin!
