On our first day to Dubai, we had to build from scratch the plane that we were going to fly for this year’s UAE National Day celebrations, the Pilot-RC custom scheme J10. Can we get it done in a single day?! Let’s find out!!

We have just landed in Dubai. It is currently 4:30 in the afternoon and we have to build this Pilot RC J10 today. So, we interpret that once again as a challenge to finish it before midnight. Now, this thing is completely empty. There’s nothing inside it. We have to install the landing gear, the tag, the turbine, the vector thrust, all the servos, the power box, receiver, and batteries. It’s going to be a long afternoon, but I’m sure we’re going to get it done. So, just like last year, we’re starting off with a bit of a crew. Over here, we’ve got our good friend Victoriao from RC Levante in Spain. He flew out with us. He’s going to be in charge of installing the servos in the wings. We’ve got Carlos, who helped us last year. He’s going to be helping me get the fuzz ready. So, we have to start with the rudder servo because the vector thrust pipe is going to cover that up once it’s installed. So, if we don’t do things in the right order, we’re going to have to pull stuff out and put stuff back in again, which isn’t going to help us with our time lap. But, let’s get to it and see how we go. This year, we already have a few models in here. We got Greg’s BD5 Matrix in my color scheme. This is the 2.8 take one. This is actually going to be sort of released over the weekend here in Dubai. The color scheme got a few BDXs, quite a few BDXs and a Pilot RC extra ready to go. And we’ve got some more rooms here this year, including a bit more of an actual workshop as opposed to the storage area which is over there. It’s already a mess and we haven’t even started yet. It’s going to be fun. So, progress report early on. We’ve got the servos in the wings. Nice, quick, easy job with the included extension leads all the way to the front. We also got Zed helping us with the other wing doing the same. I’m working on the landing gear and Carlos is struggling to get the rudder servo in there so as the arm can come out there. Would have been much easier with a little cutout there, but we’ll get it done. Need to finish the landing gear and get on with the cannards and move on to the turbine and vector thrust. There’s nothing like a nice organized toolbox where all the tools are in the toolbox and not laid out all about everywhere. Here, here. Here. The tools are here. Some of them. Some of them. Oh, good. No. No. 5:30. So, we’re about an hour in. We’ve got our radio tray. That’s starting to look reasonable now. It isn’t going to be pretty. It is only a one afternoon build. got wings which are done. We have the main gear screwed in, ready to go, minus wiring. We’re going to swap the main tank for a uh fuel bag. We have the uh carbon tubes more or less in the right locations. We just need to glue in the supports for them. We’ve now got that ru servo in and we have to glue in the mount for the vector thrust servos in the sides there. But progress is good. So hopefully we can get it done. So we’re just going to take a minute or two, clear out the worktop a little bit, put stuff in the bin that we don’t need, and hopefully have a bit more space to work with. Sorry, cases and all. We don’t have time to keep anything that isn’t immediately useful. Need to get our table back. Well, that’s looking a bit better. At least we can sort of see what we’ve got going on and what’s on the table. But uh well, this was going to be the fuel tank. Carlos, what do you think of the um fuel tank that comes with the uh kit? What? Yes. Oh, okay. CMJ jets. Yes. So, building a jet in a day may not be for everyone, but this video’s sponsor PCB Way is for everyone. If like me, you like building, tinkering, or designing, make sure to check out PCB Way, as they have all kinds of 3D printing, CNC, or as their name says, PCBs that you can design, play with, print, cut, and have delivered right to your door to continue with that project. So, thank you PCB Way for sponsoring this video. Now, let’s see if we can get it done. So, this is the FC1 that we built exactly one year ago that uh famous afternoon uh and we are going to salvage the turbine out of it. Uh so we can use it in the J10. And that way there will be two bickering built one day build jets in Dubai. Albeit both of them running the same turbine. So we’ve got the nose wheel in. Got the cannard installed along with their servo. They’re now working. We’ve finished off the electronics tray. So a little bit more cob report. We’ve got the trays for the servos now glued in. More on that in a moment. Landing gear is in back. It’s almost in on the front. We’ve got our electronics pretty much sorted. We got the turbine out for installing in the J10 out of the FC1 with all the wires of all the bundled electronics that it seems to need. But we have hit a bit of a hitch because our good friend Carlos who’s holding the camera right now mixed up the epoxy to install the servo plates. This is the Z epoxy zap 30inut epoxy that we mixed an hour ago and still not only isn’t dry, it looks like we’ve just mixed it. So he’s just mixed up another batch and put that on top on the first batch and hoping that one or the other or both will at some point eventually. Right. Red green red green. Being useful as ever. Okay, no more. Good. Good. And once that’s the case, we can install the servos, put in the turbine and the vector thrust tube, and we should be pretty much ready to go. Great. Just what we need. It’s about 9:00. We’ve got Pro Build being a massive help by filming stuff live for their YouTube, YouTube, Facebook, Facebook, everything all at once. All at once. So, they’re trying to absolutely rip off my video of building this jet in a day. But we now have the vector pipe in connected up to the servos all working. Oh, they even want to do an interview, don’t they? So, we now just need to sort out the wiring down in here and actually screw the turbine in. We’re looking good. We may even get to bed tonight. It is an hour and 3/4 before midnight and the plane is back being upright. That means that the turbine’s now installed. The uh fuel bag is also installed. It’s been a really long day. We just need to sort out the putting in the power box, all the tubes, all the wires, bring them up to here, put the batteries in the front, and then everything should look a bit neater than that. Let’s go. So since 430 that we started building the J10, Mustafa has been working on installing the cowling onto the Pilot RC 103H extra NG. Is that right? Yeah, but I didn’t and and we finished building an entire jet. Yeah, I’m alone. We just started it. This the cow is over here and the engine’s over here. It’s um chain still work in progress. I put the plugs. Okay. Adults, not us. Maybe we can trim this one tomorrow. It’s alive. We got surfaces. Surface has moved. Just trimming out a little bit. We’ve already got the expos and mixes and everything sort of semi-programmed in the radio. So, in a few minutes time, we should be good to uh fill it up and have a start. Don’t look at that. too many wires that still need uh cable tie in place and securing. But it’s currently 1 hour before midnight. So to finish the challenge and with we have 1 hour to put the fuel in, trim it out a little bit and start the engine. We should be good. [Music] [Applause] Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. We started the day Friday morning going to work. After work, we drove 4 hours to Madrid. We got the Redeye Emirates to Dubai. I’m not a good sleeper, especially not on airplanes, so no sleep. We landed here 7 a.m. We’ve come straight here to the flying field. 4:00 we started building this and it’s now not quite half 11 in the evening. Plane is ready to go. Just started it. Everything works. We managed it before midnight again. Thanks Gonzo for making it happen. We’re going to go to bed. We will double check everything in the morning. Make sure that we haven’t made any mistakes due to effectively two days in our sleep. And then fully recovered, we’ll start having some fun. See you guys in the morning. [Music] I get the feeling no one’s going to believe that was the maiden
