How it’s made… Electron Retracts – Factory visit

Beschreibung zum Video:
Electron Retracts kindly opened their doors and let me play freely with their factory for the day.

Once I picked my jaw off the floor we got to work, so here is a guided tour through the fascinating Electron Retracts factory, and the process they follow in producing all their top spec components.

From the Retract Mechanisms down to the brakes, struts and quality control, we show you each step along the way, as well as some fun bits thrown in for good measure!

Have fun, I know I did!

I wanna mother picking and today we’re going to show you how electron retracts go from a solid lump of aluminium to the best retracts on the market today let’s see exactly how they do [Music] [Applause] [Applause] [Music] [Music] okay first thing to the machine more like a missile launch to me [Music] we’ve done all the machining now we’re all sorted out into different little parts and all kinds so I got some struts different plasters nuts got wheel hubs you name it it’s here yeah later any guesses and no it isn’t this very funny Christmas tree anodizing station we have different parts that have been anodized in this case black and even the silver ones nothing’s happened to them get a coating making sure that always guaranteed to be nice and shiny and clean and spotless no matter how much we’ve like still kind of like in the Christmas tree our next step we have the main body of the reject itself and all the little fiddly parts was going the side the ones that actually make it work as a retractor so we have electrons very unique square thread Trillium which allows the retracts to move both quicker and with more torque than other brands or the previous type of so that’s of course attached to the part actually makes the retrack move and then we have the actual turnbuckle end itself and the motor simply screw it onto the end here once that’s all done hopefully if we’re doing it right we’ll have a working return these are how the motors arrived at electron retracts so it’s just the simple motor with its gearbox already attached to it we then take the parts that we machined previously and they’re already anodized couple them all up all inside every now and then everything gets neatly soldered on to make the end piece that we all actually receive for the model itself this then just screws on to the main body of the actual reject herself couldn’t be much simpler over here we have all the actual struts themselves now all the strips of course are individual pieces which then get matched up with counterparts until just where everything’s mounted up just all the springs I think split up into the different sizes as needed so we have the small ones big ones where this is the end result so one of the best things electron retracts have aside from the fact that everything’s electric they actually have electric brakes that work but this is a big concern for everyone you really need your model to stop at the other one wave when you get seen in the runway especially if it’s an emergency and the electron retracts have done exactly that they were the first ones to get electric brakes to work and they’re still the ones that work the best today now it could be much simpler but it’s a very refined system they have little hope which they wind themselves through a very specific number of wines now that becomes an electromagnet when you put current through it black guys in there like so and then the actual brake disc has a series of little pads on it with some very fine tolerances to make sure that they are both grippy enough to make you break but not so much it’s gonna make you skip because you will locks up etc not to mention that with the three different electronics that they have two of them have abs so you have nice smooth braking no matter what you’re doing it so as well as making electric rika tracks electric brakes they now also make electric pistons now I’ve had a few of these and they are amazing I mean they were just like a servo but you really there’s no way of stopping them and really basic they’ll be in the same way you have a little case where the motor goes and then anything else just basically slots on from there one and what you get at the end is one amazingly amazingly tough little piston yeah the the Pistons got some torque on it the actuator can definitely I think you’ll do at this a decent job of keeping your doors open or closed okay so we’ve got you retracts we’ve got your struts we’ve got your brakes and we’ve got unit actuators we just need something to control it with so electron have three controllers we have the RB 45 which is the basic version which has retracts and breaks on the one unit we have the RS 200 which is the same but adds in three gear doors as well as abs and a couple of other nifty features and the GS 200 which is the absolutely amazing version which has a gyro inside touchscreen it’s got eight gear doors on it ABS all the features gyro assisted braking so you don’t have any of the skidding on breaking even added braking in the steering if you want to for taking off you name it this is the one you want yeah best not throw this one okay at the moment I feel like I should be wearing some glasses and pen over here as a nerdy someone this is where we test all the electronics and retracts and everything before it goes out the door so make sure all the legs are working with the electronics we have a steering we have the brake so they we don’t have the brake actually setup so we have to tube also very easy to see the brakes working correctly the more you give it that it’s proportional the brighter it gets you can even test that the this is the GS 200 which actually has a gyro inside it so if we move it we can actually it lastly prevent skidding by braking more on one side than the other if need be so you always get a straight break avoid skidding like this chairs back in with the rejects and the brace go off automatically once the recharge go in because of course is no point having the brakes on inside the plane other than to use battery to be pointless so off automatically like I should probably point out at this point that it’s not a good idea to program your GS 200 with a screwdriver this is show L hearings electron retracts he can do whatever he wants okay and that’s it that’s the electron retracts factory how does thanks show L the owner manager of electron retracts for both all the help throughout the years and for letting me come today to wreak absolute havoc here at the factory I dread to think on Monday morning when everyone comes back and they try to figure out why everything’s are in the wrong boxes and nothing’s where it should be and everything’s out but are the blasts at a time I hope you’ve enjoyed the factory visit and remember the next time you need some retracts some breaks accessories electron retracts thank you thank you I’ve enjoyed the video remember to subscribe hit the like button little bell notifications all that good stuff see you next time you

  1. Not exactly “How it’s made” I could just barely see the parts you were barely defining, sometimes not at all. Great to get access to the factory though, thanks!
