Yes, hello and welcome to a new video from me. Today I have another small EC145 for you, the XK160. This time without any optical altimeters, which has become quite rare these days, but we have a barometric altimeter installed and of course we still have good stabilization and everything is RTF again. Today, as always, I’ll start by showing you the contents of the box. Then I’ll show you the model in a little more detail, including the remote control and its functions. And at the end, of course, we’ll go flying again. I’d say we get started right away. Have fun. Here we have the stylish packaging, and I’d say we open it up straight away . First of all, we have a stylish landing pad. The material is similar to what you would find on a mouse pad. Then, of course, we have the instruction manual in English and Chinese. Next, we have a bag with the USB charging cable for the LiPo battery. Then there’s a second bag. In here are the four spare black rotor blades, a spare tail propeller, a spare main gear and a bit of tools. Of course we also have a battery, namely a 1s 800 amp LiPo battery. Then we also have the 2.4 GHz remote control with the spring-loaded control sticks. I’ll show you those in more detail in a moment. And last but not least the small EC145, which we’ll look at in more detail next time. This time we have a B black and grey EC145. To be honest, I don’t even know if the original one exists . Otherwise, like most small models, we’ve added a lot of details, like all the rivets here on the fuselage and the tail boom. We’ve also molded in some contours. We’ve even attached the antennas to the tail boom here at the back, and at the front we have a cable cutter on the top and bottom. At the front of the cockpit we also have a properly plugged-in windshield wiper, not one that’s just printed on. In terms of detail, I actually think the IC is really nice. The turbine dome is very close to the original. And the black exhaust pipes here at the back. I also think the tail fins here at the back are really cool. They’re not that detailed, but they still have a nice shape and are slightly angled backwards. The landing gear is also very nice. It’s not that detailed here, but we have the raised tips here at the front. What’s not so nice is the large brushed tail rotor. Because of its size, it sticks out quite far at the back. The main rotor, however, is driven by a brushed motor via a pinion and gear connection. The swashplate and the entire rotor head are made of plastic. The main rotor shaft is, of course, made of metal. The swashplate is also controlled by three micro servos. The rotor blades are black here and have grey tips on the outside, and the tail rotor is white here and also has grey tips on the inside. Unfortunately, we don’t have much lighting ; we only have the landing light here at the front; otherwise, we have n’t installed any lighting here. The windows are somewhat transparent, but the heavy tint means you can’t really see inside. What I also find quite useful on smaller models is that, to access the electronics and battery, we can remove the entire canopy at the front. Because it’s now extended all the way back, it’s a bit tricky, but it works. You just have to be careful not to rip out the landing light when pulling it off . Under the canopy is the control board with the servo connections, the gyro, and the 2.4 GHz receiver. Below that is the battery compartment. We can simply insert the small LiPo battery and then connect it to the plugs. Then the helicopter starts up immediately. We don’t have a separate one here. I also find attaching the canopy a bit fiddly, but it often works out somehow. You just have to look, that you somehow squeeze everything in here at the front, then you can clip the canopy in at the front. By the way, there are two small magnets at the back which hold the rear part of the canopy in place. The IC145 has a diameter of approx. 250 mm, a length of approx. 230 mm and a take-off weight of approx. 88 g. Yes, of course we have a simple 2.4 GHz plastic remote control here again . It also lies well in the hand and the weight is quite pleasant, even though, surprisingly, it takes 6 AA batteries. The battery compartment is, of course, also down here on the back. The sticks are all spring-loaded again due to the automatic take-off and landing function. The stick assemblies are made of plastic, but the sticks themselves are made of aluminum and can also be adjusted slightly in height. Here in the middle we have the off switch, above it a small hanger and up here we have the status LED. The trim buttons are also attached here around the stick assemblies. The transmitter can also be operated in Mode 2 or Mode 1. To do this, simply hold the bottom left trim button to the right while switching it on and then bind the helicopter using either the left stick for Mode 2 or the right stick for Mode 1. The setting is then saved so you don’t have to change it every time. We also have four buttons up here, but only the two outermost ones have a function. The left button is for changing the swashplate deflections. The right button is for the automatic takeoff and landing function. Up here we also have the 2.4 GHz antenna. We don’t have a handle here, but we do have two feet that we can use to put the remote control down. [Music] Ah. Yes, of course we’ll come to a conclusion here too at the end. First of all, I think the EC145’s looks are once again very nice and it has a lot of details like rivets and code. There’s actually nothing wrong with it, but I don’t think the canopy at the front works at all. I’ve rarely had to deal with a canopy this fiddly. The magnets at the back aren’t a bad idea at all, but the general attachment of the canopy is so fiddly that it really puts you off. Everything at the front is very tight, including the cables for the lights. Then you have to check the magnets at the back to make sure they fit in properly, etc. It’s really not a very well-designed solution. A shame, really. Now we come to the flight characteristics. I have to say, in the end the IC did n’t fly that badly, and it flies stable in that sense. So far so good. But it was a rocky road to get there. The first few attempts to fly it were really scary. It kept veering off in one direction or another. It jerked violently when I let go of the sticks, or even fell over before takeoff. Calibration didn’t help at all. It was so annoying that I almost didn’t want to film any more flights for the video. Don’t ask me why, but in the end it worked out reasonably well, as you saw in the video. What the IC also does, strangely enough, is that if you push the gear slightly to the left, the EC simply turns to the right. I’ve never actually experienced anything like that before. Unfortunately, you can sometimes notice this behavior in flight, although it doesn’t have any dramatic consequences, but I find it really unpleasant for beginners. This strong click when you release the sticks too quickly doesn’t look particularly good in flight and could be somewhat irritating for beginners. The transmitter also doesn’t beep when the helicopter’s battery is running low. You only notice this by the flashing LED on the helicopter. You have to pay a bit of attention then. It’s not a big problem, of course. All in all, my opinion of this EC would be that it’s not really suitable for beginners in my opinion, and there are plenty of much better flying models on the market these days. Maybe I had a Monday model, although I have also seen others that had to deal with similar behavior. And of course I also consulted BG, who said that the problem seemed to be normal and that there was no real solution. Sorry for the somewhat devastating conclusion, but I also want to be honest about my experiences .
