WIRELESS SIMULATOR with CORE!! (and any other radio)

Beschreibung zum Video:
I set off on a search for an RC Simulator that could be used with any radio, and it had to be wireless

It was easy and hard all at the same time, check out the process and the results!

I brought it and welcome back to the channel well today we’re talking simulators why because I’ve said for years that they are the best thing to make muscle memory for flying great for practice not quite the same as the real thing but it will save you from a load of crashes and a load of expenditure it’s the best way to learn to fly along with these guys now there’s going to be a review of this one coming up very soon along with the optic power for than 30 milliamps to s lipo’s so look out for that that’s kind of real soon now getting back to simulators I’ve loved them for years I even have two original arrow fly pro deluxe simulators because the first one gave up on me after using the wire basically just for too long without giving it a break it obviously just burns up now the problem with simulators that I found was that whenever you change Radio whenever you change systems you always end up with wires and adapters new wires and it’s just a pain and unless you get the right combination I always find that there was a bit of a delay between the radio and what happened on screen so I kind of fell out of love with them along with well life in general that just took time away from being able to spend that time at the computer well I want to get back into my sim flying I used to love it and I think it really is a great way to perfect all these tricks that we’re not doing but I didn’t want to go back to being tied to wires and finding out the way to get my power box radio to work with it as it’s still new on the market I don’t think anyone’s done it yet well I found a way I think the idea is to use this thing now this is made by Icarus the same people who make the arrow fly pro to look simulator and the idea is you connect a standard receiver to it so basically what’s happening is your radio is transmitting as it does normally to a receiver the receiver is connected to the USB dongle and the dongle is connected to a computer now being Icarus I figured hopefully being an original simulator manufacturer there isn’t gonna be a latency problem which causes that delay so we’ll see about that a little bit later on it also has the option to be able to plug in an original wire if you’re using the error fly sim because obviously this is actually the part that allows the software to run it’s their guarantee that is an original software so you can plug that into the back in and out and work with that or if your simulator doesn’t need an official wire connected well just leave it blank so the idea is yes I’ve got our fly pro deluxe but I’ve actually really got into real flight simulator so that’s the one I’m going to be using so let’s head into the office and actually see if we can download and get real flight working wirelessly with our core radio let’s get on to it so we’re at our computer as you can see mine has this wonderful little Apple logo which basically means that it’s incompatible with pretty much anything out there on the market that they don’t design themselves so how do we get simulators working because the only one that works with Mac I believe is ever fly well we install windows onto it now that doesn’t mean I’ve got rid of the Apple stuff behind it it just means that I’m split the hard drive and added Windows to a part of it using boot camp now I’m not going to go into detail of how I did that there’s plenty of information online but we’ve got our windows installed so let’s get onto it with the actual simulator itself now have you said I want to be installing real flight so the first thing we got to do is go and buy that so go on to the real flight web site don’t need a translating no thank you bigger we are going to go to Aussie flight since we want these software only and we wanted to arrive right now otherwise these are gonna be a really slow video so we’re gonna go to the digital download Add to Cart if you yeah we’re gonna have a nice new simulator to play with now obviously I’m not going to show you all my credit card details so we’ll just pause this part and come back to you guys in a moment so we have a bit of a continuity issue turns out that I tried to buy real flight online via the official website I went all the way through put in my payment details and then it said no you don’t have a u.s. address we’re not going to sell you the download now of course you’re doing is a digital download and I don’t have anything shipped to me I cannot understand why that is but after talking with them asking a few friends on Facebook and quite a few emails each way turns out that the only way that we can buy the digital download from outside of the u.s. is not via real flight themselves instead via the online platform steam so after going through all of that registering with steam paying them instead have finally been able to download and install real flight so let’s see what actually happens but first of all we need to set up a new model on our radio and be able to then connect it to our sim stick as each radio is different I’m not going to go through the model creating step in much detail I already did the video on how to do it in the power box core and there’s loads of videos online for all different radios as well so just create a new model as simple as possible just for your simulator and move on to the next step so we’ve got our radio ready let’s open real fly and see if we get all connected up looking good okay so once the radio connecting to the computer before opening we can do that so we’re gonna take our USB to receiver set up and get all that plugged in moment of truth we’ve got our radio set up we’ve got our receiver plugged into our computer via the icarus RC sim connector we’ve downloaded steam so that we can download RealFlight whilst not being in the u.s. let’s see if it all works simulator and that’s a no please connect a valid joystick okay guys this is turning out to be a really difficult video to make for really small NAG little things turns out that the description of how this little box works among the many options that it has is that if you’re using a simulator such as its own error flight pro deluxe it has a you have to have the wire connected because the wire is basically the guarantee that the software is original so you plug that into there and then back into there again now according to the instruction manual if you’re doing that then you should have a purple light and if you don’t it should be green as we don’t find it on green which is how it comes when you turn it on it turns out that you see the way around so just press the button on the top make it go purple and now thankfully if we open RealFlight he no longer gives us that error message and we can actually get into the simulator so I’m actually gonna have a look now see how to wear calibrate and set everything up and I’ll be back to you guys in a moment as as I said this is going away slower than I would have hoped but hopefully we’re actually getting there I mean have a RT simulator with any radio without any wires there finally everything’s working now I hope that you guys didn’t struggle as much as I’ve done to get this far and hopefully you find this video helpful to prevent you guys getting stuck on those same things but either way we’ve got the simulator running and the next step was simply to get the radio set up to run correctly so if we go into simulation select controller automatically the controller that’s plugged in by our sim connector shows up we hit edit and we choose which one of the random channels that we assigned on our radio are going to control the aileron the elevator the throttle do etc now the way they’ve done this is quite cool and reminds me of how some other company does things you’ll see why because the aileron channel is channel 1 and to select which radio function controls it we simply click here and it asks us to move the aileron stick which we do and it detects automatically which channel or which joystick function that is now I’ll say I’ve seen that before let me know in the comments underneath which company you think came up with that first oh I know the answer so once we’ve got that done you’re then going to calibrate now as I’ve already done this I’m not going to do it again but basically what calibrate means is that it detects the end point for each one of the sticks now it’s still worth pointing out even when you do that the end point doesn’t normally match so because 100% on one transmitter isn’t always the same as 100% on a different transmitter so you want to make sure that the bar that moves with your stick reaches the very end of the bar both ways at the same time you do you don’t want it to come up short because then you’re lacking travel and you don’t want it to reach the end before you do because then you’re going to have a dead travel on your transmitter so just adjust the end points in your radio so that the end point truly is the correct end point you’ve got your reverses and now once that’s done it’s time to have some real fun and play oh yeah and I haven’t used a simulator for forever may need to practice a bit oh yeah and thumbs up to Rory for sending over to me the pilot RC laser which it’s quite good on the sim I still got it you get used to all this flying back on the computer I said I haven’t done this for a very long time but it’s always cool flying a plane that you have sure my current one is the red scheme but I’m actually building one just like this one so yeah carbide to that get that one look into the air and to get some more sticked on this one so cheers thanks back and there you have it after a few twists and turns we got there and we’ve got basically a system that will allow us to use any RC simulator with any transmitter regardless of its transmitting system or module you just need one of these now the one thing I’ll add for anyone who wants to follow along and do the same at home to have a wireless simulator is I’ve been talking through the whole video about the Icarus RC sim connector now the reason I went for the branded one is because I figured Icarus make a simulator so they’ll have a system that uses real time basically low latency meaning there’s no lag between the radio and the computer and it will credit to them there isn’t it’s quick at the same speed as any wire is however if you look at this thing closely you’ll naturally see that they’ve put their sticker on top of the cheaper version so if you’re going to try and do it yourself hey why not save yourself about half the money and just by the simple one as opposed to the branded one which is the same one with a sticker on top there you go hope you enjoyed that bit of advice and the rest of the video as well and I’ll see you in the next one I’m Martin Pickering and I really hope that you’ve enjoyed this video if you did leave a like and hit that subscribe button subscribing is free and just
